Update: He was born late Friday and he’s healthy. I’m going to leave him alone other than that, because the sins of the mother do not pass on to the child.
Some time tonight, my sister is going to give birth to my nephew. And yes, if you’ve done the math, this means she was pregnant when she was smoking and getting hammered on her wedding day. She has eaten at Jack in the Box for every meal since, and perhaps in an attempt to give my young nephew a chance to prove just how tough he really is, has not taken a single pre-natal vitamin and plans to give birth while on every single pain killer known to man. Yet still I hope that he will be okay. God how I hope.
Seven years ago, on this day, my Grandfather died. Tomorrow, my step-father turns forty-one. Also, did I tell you that my mother was born within three days of mother’s day and that my father was born within three days of father’s day? Yes, the stars are in place. All is as ironic as it should be. Now for the weird existential speculation about what this all means in the big picture.
It has been proven in Physics that we may be certain of nothing. The greater accuracy with which we determine one fact, the greater the depth of the unknown into which we banish countless others. This is written as a flame imperishable. All that there is, will change by death and chaos.
If one is happy this is a disparaging thought. For all that entropy may imply is that happiness will run out. But in the dark times we may turn to this idea for hope. For as surely as despair lingers ever over the next horizon, this same principle demands that hope persist in the face of darkness. As joy implies sorrow, sorrow demands hope.
I’m going to stop rambling, and say something about juxtaposition. Watch the two clips below in the order I have posted them and then marvel at this thought: in the same world, formed by the same rules, both of these men exist. Given this, anything is possible for anyone.
Here are two more examples of the versatility of the human race for your edification.

Best of luck to that baby. It sounds like he will need it.
I hope the adoptive family is nice.
I hope by now you’ve stolen the baby & brought him into the woods to raise him.
